Dear fellow magicians and friends,
Please mark your calendar and join us for the following events at Haines House of Cards (except the picnic at Lake Isabella), as we near the home stretch of our fiscal year:
March 25, 2011 (Friday) – David Kovac lecture
David is a magician, juggler, and classically trained actor. His act has been showcased throughout the United States, including the Magic Castle (Hollywood), New York City’s “Monday Night Magic” hit, Chicago’s Second City stage, and many other venues. I’ve seen David perform at conventions and at The Magic Castle; he is terrific! David’s lecture theme for Ring 71 is “Acting For Magicians”, with an emphasis on demonstrating how tricks can be transformed into more effective theatrical presentations. Don’t miss this professional class-act!
April 17, 2011 (Sunday) – Annual Ring 71 Auction
Don’t miss the opportunity to buy/sell magical treasures from fellow magicians and collectors. Several pieces from magic collections will be on the auction block for the highest bidders. This is also an important fund-raiser for the Ring (10% of proceeds retained by the Ring to help pay for lectures). To enable a more balanced auction of items from multiple collections, each seller will be assigned a lot number on the day of the auction, and magic props will be sold by category (such as silks, cards, videos/DVD’s, illusion boxes, coins, etc.). So please start placing the items you want to auction off, into separate clear bags / containers, along with a description of each item and its condition including any instructions. Please also include the minimum bid you will accept for the item. Whether you plan to buy or sell, this will be a fun day for everyone!
April 22, 2011 (Friday) – Final day to receive nominations for officer positions
Presently, the candidates for election are:
- President – Don Hinton
- Vice President – Chuck Arkin
- Secretary – Jeff Brown
- Treasurer – Pat Hartzel
- Sergeant at Arms – Rick Gaffney
- Board Position (one opening) – Frank Johnston
Please contact Chuck Arkin or Mark Wiechman immediately if you want to add yourself, or nominate another person(s), to serve in one or more of these positions.
May 27, 2011 (Friday): IBM Lecture, and Elections
June 12, 2011 (Sunday): IBM/SAM combined picnic and War of The Wizards
The picnic will again be held at Lake Isabella. Applications are being considered for three (3) IBM members to compete on behalf of Ring 71. Please contact Chuck Arkin to discuss the competition.
Other magic in the news
Let’s enjoy the magic, together!
Yours in magic,
President, IBM Ring 71
